Mona is not a new face to the children's advocacy movement or to Angelina Alliance for Children.  She began her work with the movement in 1986 in Houston, Texas as a layperson soliciting funds for charitable organizations that served abused and neglected children.  In 1986, Mona graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Sciences from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and moved to Lufkin, Texas where she joined the Department of Human Services as a Children's Protective Services caseworker.  After leaving the Department of Human Services, she continued in the field as a court appointed social worker in disputed child custody and adoption cases.  Additionally, she has worked as both a volunteer and employee for both the Women's Shelter of East Texas and The Adult Learning Center.  Mona has served on the Angelina County Child Welfare Board since 1995.  She was a founding board member for Angelina Alliance for Children and has served on its Advisory Board and as a past chair of the "Alliance's Annual Student Art Openings" and the "Justice is Served" 2008 fundraiser.

Amy began her career in Forensic Interviewing after receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Child and Family Development with a minor in Early Childhood Education from Stephen F. Austin University.  After serving as the primary Forensic Interviewer for two years, she now serves as the Program Director  and Victim Services Coordinator.  Whether she's interviewing children, making referrals, or writing grants, Amy enjoys being a part of the many layers of the Alliance and its service to child victims and their families.

 

Jessica Hernandez

Bilingual Forensic Interviewer
Jessica began her career in Forensic Interviewing after receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Professional Psychology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 2006.  When Jessica isn't interviewing children, she helps educate the Hispanic community in order to prevent future abuse.  Jessica's favorite part of being a part of the Alliance is seeing the change from the moment they walk through the front doors to the moment they leave.
Melisa Shivers Melisa Shives, A.A.S.
Victim Advocate
Melisa Shives joining Angelina Alliance for Children this year as our Victim Advocate.  Melisa bring with her years of experience working in the community with families and professionals in the medical and legal fields.  Once her children were older, Melisa went back to school and received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies in 2005.  She works directly with non-offending caregivers ensuring that the children receive the services such as Crime Victim Compensation, court preparation, referrals to the non-offending caregiver.  She also is a liaison for the on-site counseling program and partner agencies.

Cassie Leonard Cassie Leonard, M.A.
Counselor in Training & Education Director
Cassie began her career as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern after receiving her Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology at Texas A&M and her Masters of Arts Degree in Community Counseling at Stephen F. Austin State University.  Cassie enjoys helping child, adolescent, and adult survivors of abuse, while also educating the surrounding community in order to prevent future abuse.
